OVER DE KUNSTENAAR / ABOUT THE ARTIST
Fine Art photographer Frank van Driel [1966, Leiden, the Netherlands] holds a master degree in change management and studied at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam (EUR). He grew up spending his summers at a family farm estate in Beekbergen. Here Frank was taught how to ride horses, hunt, fish and farm. With a keen eye for photography, he bought his first analog Hasselblad camera at the age of 19, and printed his own black & white photographs.
After a short career at KPMG Management Consulting, Frank picked up his camera again and made a 180 degree change in 2001. He first worked as a commercial photographer for advertising campaigns and shot high-end portraits. To realize then his true ambition of becoming a Fine Art photographer, and working mainly from his monumental studio in 's-Hertogenbosch.
After his artist residence in Celleno, Italy in 2018 here he was inspired to start his successful and awardwinning series Soul Scapes. He created a new genre where still life and nudes unite.
Frank van Driel is inspired by the light and symbolism of Dutch and Flemish master painters from the 17th century. He plays with storytelling and 'The Art of Perception'. The serene series of still life and (nude) portraits connect past, present and future. They also reflect a great passion for purity, history and nature. His extensive oeuvre captured in a first monograph, titled 'to be frank' was published in 2021 by Lecturis.
The autonomous work of the photographer has been presented in museums both in the Netherlands and abroad, at art fairs such as KunstRAI, PAN Amsterdam, Rotterdam Contemporary and TEFAF Maastricht, and exhibited in cities like Amsterdam, Antwerp, Hong Kong and London. His work is internationally awarded and included in the collections of many private collectors and companies.
In 2023 he won 1st prize at the 16th International Color Awards in Los Angeles.
All prints are individually signed and numbered, and always accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
