  • Reinier Gerritsen (1950, Amsterdam) woont en werkt in Amsterdam.
  • Studeerde in 1997 af in fotografie aan de Koninklijke Academie voor Beeldende Kunst Den-Haag, NL
  • In 2020 hernam hij een serie bijzondere beelden van insecten die vooral in het donker actief zijn. Deze beelden brengen een wereld aan het licht die zowel bescheiden is als spectaculair, even aards als magisch en net zo alledaags als bijzonder is. 
De natuur is daarbij zowel art director, set dresser én stylist ineen. Alle beelden zijn ‘single exposures’, de composities een combinatie van toeval en geluk.

Om deze grotendeels ongeziene, bijna magische wereld zichtbaar te maken, hoefde Maaskant niet verder te reizen dan 30 kilometer van zijn woonplaats.

OVER DE KUNSTENAAR / ABOUT THE ARTIST

Rogier Maaskant (1971, Heerjansdam) studied Photography at the Royal Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague.                                                    He lives and works in Rotterdam. During his career, he made a variety of work.



In 2020 he resumed a series of magical images of insects that are mainly active in the dark. These images reveal a world that is both modest and spectacular, as earthly as it is magical, and as mundane as it is special. 
Nature as art director, set dresser and stylist in one.
All images are 'single exposures', the compositions a combination of coincidence and luck.


To make this largely unseen, almost magical world visible, Maaskant did not travel any further than 30 kilometers from his hometown. 


The work received attention in the newspapers De Volkskrant(NL) and De Standaard(B).
The book 'Sense of presence' will be published in July by publisher The Eriskay Connection.
It includes an essay by biologist and author Auke-Florian Hiemstra.
