Sideway Scenery II - Installation, mixed media, 2015, 290 x 289 cm, ed. 1/3
At ART Rotterdam (zerp.nl/artrotterdam) ZERP Galerie presents four artists: Peter Riss, Kim De Ruysscher, Jasper Griepink and Anna Lange. In the installation Sideway Scenery II by Anna Lange (Schaijk, 1969) a taxidermied winter hare and an old, faded Goblin tapestry are combined with a neon sculpture featuring lyrics from the song ‘Venus in Furs’ by The Velvet Underground. In the handwriting of singer Lou Reed we read: ‘I am tired, I am weary. I could sleep for a thousand years, a thousand dreams that would awake me. Different colors made of tears’. The interplay of the three elements of the installation enables many interpretations. The antique tapestry, the stuffed hare and the fragile neon seem to refer to loss and transience, but the installation could also be interpreted as an expression of the acceptance of the inevitable.
